Many of us have a bad view of many things because many bad things are dramatic and sudden (Hurricanes, elections). Good things are often slow and steady and harder to notice (improving poverty numbers, improving infant mortality). Bad news gets clicks, whereas good news isn’t as popular. Give a look at how much the world has improved since you were born and take heart.
In my book, one of the great innovations is the drastic improvement in apples over the course of my lifetime. When I was a kid, apples were, well, mealy and not really good. Now, they are crisp and delicious. Do yourself a favor and try a Honey Crisp. Amazing.
Life Lesson of the Week: I went to an expensive and snooty liberal arts college. But from the moment I graduated, exactly zero people cared. Not one. It didn’t make any difference in how people approached me -- as far as I could tell, anyway. In addition, no one even asked about my GPA. Food for thought.
Minor Irritation of the Week: “7 more comments” — There is infinite scroll space at the bottom of my browser. Show me all the comments and don’t make me click for more. Why not show them all by default?
