Ten Things That Occurred to Me #3
I find the US Tax Code to be onerous, opaque, inexplicable, and tedious. It would be better if it were a lot simpler and more straightforward. But it never will be. Alas.
If you are looking for politicians to make your life better, I've got some news for you: Politicians are not going to help you have a better life. Please, don't let who is running the government affect how you view your life and the world. They come and go. You don't.
Movie of the Week: The Map of Tiny Perfect Things -- Okay, this is a blatant, overt rip-off of Groundhog Day. But it's a sweet, wonderful, beautiful film. Worth the price of Amazon Prime alone. Really.
It is my firm belief that the blockchain is the future. That the blockchain is to the future, what the Internet was to the future in 1993. Just as there were fortunes to be made with the Internet in 1993, so there are fortunes to be made with the blockchain today. I'm working overtime to figure out exactly what that means. I recommend you do the same, and if you get any good ideas, please let me know.
Television Show of Week: Outlander -- It's a terrific show with a wonderful premise. So powerful. The love between Jamie and Claire is compelling, and, well, timeless. Strongly recommended. You can watch the first four seasons on Netflix.
I have some thoughts on Facebook:
First, Facebook is what you make it. If you let trolls and obnoxious people on your feed, then Facebook will suck. If you get rid of those people, Facebook will be delightful.
Focus your time and attention on the wonderful people in your life. I have a friend who struggled to be a mom, adopted two kids, and now she's as happy as a clam. She posts pictures of her adorable kids all the time and it makes me so happy to see them. This is great.
Don't follow anyone who posts political shit on Facebook. Ruthlessly unfollow them. You know you can unfollow people and still be friends with them, right? Do this.
Don't get into fights on Facebook. Trust me, as someone who has wasted too much time and emotional energy doing so, this is a complete waste of time. Utterly and completely.
I am deeply convinced that one of the greatest inventions in the history of Western Civilization -- and one of the best outlay of public funding -- is the public library. If you don't appreciate the public library, there is something seriously wrong with you.
If you can pardon the f-bombs, this article will very likely be the most empowering and life-altering article you will read this year.
Book of the Week: The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason. (That's an affiliate link.....) You won't find better financial advice anywhere. Wisdom for the ages.
I may have said this before, but sometimes just making it through the day is a huge win. Celebrate it. At the end of the day, as you get ready for bed, give yourself credit for making it through the day in these tough times. It's a big achievement, and you shouldn't let it go unrecognized.
